Wolves and Liverpool Pay Tribute to Diogo Jota After Tragic Passing

Wolverhampton Wanderers have posthumously inducted former forward Diogo Jota into their Hall of Fame, following the tragic car accident that claimed his life earlier this month.

Jota was a key figure in Wolves’ 2018 promotion to the Premier League, and his contributions left a lasting legacy at the club. Wolves’ director of football administration, Matt Wild, said:

“Diogo was not only a phenomenal footballer, but someone who carried himself with humility and kindness throughout his time at Wolves, and will be sorely missed by all of us.”

Jota now joins club icons such as Billy Wright, Derek Dougan, and Steve Bull in the Hall of Fame, which was established in 2008.

Liverpool Honor Jota with Shirt Retirement and Memorials

At Liverpool, tributes have poured in for the Portuguese forward. The club has officially retired Jota’s number 20 shirt across all levels, ensuring no future player will wear it again — a historic first for the Reds.

In partnership with EA Sports, a special “Forever 20” tifo pack has also been released for FC25, celebrating Jota’s presence in the football world, both on and off the pitch.

Liverpool have announced they will hold a pre-season tribute match in Jota’s memory, and have created a permanent memorial page on the club’s official website.

A Legacy Remembered

Jota, aged 28, passed away in a car accident alongside his brother André in early July while traveling in Spain. The incident is believed to have been caused by a tire blowout as the brothers were en route to catch a ferry to the UK.

The football world has been united in mourning. Tributes from fans, teammates, and national leaders have highlighted Jota’s legacy of passion, humility, and professionalism.

During his career, Jota made a huge impact—first at Wolves, then at Liverpool, where he scored 65 goals in 182 appearances and played a vital role in their 2024/25 Premier League title win.

Bottom Line:
Wolves and Liverpool have honored Diogo Jota with lasting tributes. Wolves inducted him into their Hall of Fame, while Liverpool retired his shirt and created multiple memorials—ensuring the football world will never forget his name.
