Tottenham Hotspur have completed the blockbuster signing of Dutch star Xavi Simons from RB Leipzig in a deal worth €60 million, Fabrizio Romano has confirmed.
The highly-rated midfielder has officially signed a contract until 2030, with an option to extend for two additional years until 2032. Simons successfully passed his medical earlier today, and Spurs are set to announce the transfer in the coming hours.
Deal Details
- Transfer Fee: €60m fixed
- Contract: Until June 2030 + 2-year option (potentially until 2032)
- Medical: Completed and approved

Tottenham Hijack Chelsea Target
The move is especially dramatic given that Chelsea had long been linked with Simons, and many expected Stamford Bridge to be his next destination.
RB Leipzig sporting director Marcel Schäfer even confirmed last week that Chelsea’s admiration for the midfielder was genuine, sparking speculation of an imminent unveiling in West London.
Instead, Tottenham made a late move and successfully hijacked Chelsea’s transfer pursuit, sealing one of the standout deals of the summer window.
Thomas Frank, said: “I’m really pleased we have brought Xavi in – he is a great addition to the squad.
“He is still young, however he already has good experience and, over the past few years, has played a lot of games at the top level.
“Xavi has proven his ability to get goals and assists, both from the number 10 position and left-wing. He also has a great eye for his team-mates in terms of unlocking defences, and I know he will come in and be part of a good team that is already working hard together.”
Tottenham’s Statement Signing
This transfer marks a major milestone for Spurs, who have beaten out some of Europe’s top clubs to secure Simons’ signature. Known for his creativity, versatility, and flair, the Dutch international is expected to become a central figure in Ange Postecoglou’s midfield rebuild.

At just 21 years old, Simons already boasts experience at PSG, PSV Eindhoven, and RB Leipzig, and has shone on the European stage with his playmaking ability and technical brilliance. His arrival signals Tottenham’s intent to challenge at the top level both in the Premier League and in Europe.
