Former Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey is reportedly on the verge of joining Villarreal CF on a free transfer, despite facing serious legal proceedings in the UK. The 32-year-old Ghana international has been without a club since his contract with Arsenal expired in June 2025.
According to The Athletic, Partey has undergone a medical and agreed to a two-year deal with the La Liga side. Villarreal, who are set to compete in next season’s Champions League, are expected to confirm the deal imminently — possibly before their pre-season fixture against Arsenal on Wednesday.

Partey’s move comes amid legal controversy. He has been charged with five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault. The midfielder denies all allegations but is scheduled to appear before Westminster Magistrates’ Court on August 5.
The midfielder joined Arsenal in 2020 from Atletico Madrid for £45.4 million. While his time in North London was marred by injuries, Partey played a pivotal role during the early years of Mikel Arteta’s rebuild.
