Son Heung-min Announces Departure From Tottenham After 10 Years

Tottenham Hotspur captain Son Heung-min has officially announced his departure from the club this summer, ending a remarkable 10-year journey in North London. The South Korean superstar revealed the news at a press conference in Seoul ahead of Spurs’ pre-season match against Newcastle United.

“I have decided to leave this club this summer,” Son said. “It was the most difficult decision of my career. I’ve achieved everything I could at Tottenham, and I now need a new environment for a fresh challenge.”

Son joined Spurs in 2015 and became one of the most iconic players in the club’s modern history, scoring 173 goals and providing 101 assists in 454 appearances. His emotional statement reflects the strong bond he formed with the club and its fans over the past decade.

“I came here as a young boy at 23 who didn’t even speak English. I’m leaving as a grown man. I’m proud of that,” Son added.

Move to LAFC on the Horizon?

While Son has not confirmed his next destination, Major League Soccer side LAFC are widely reported to be in advanced discussions to sign him as their next marquee Designated Player. Former Spurs teammate Hugo Lloris is currently LAFC’s starting goalkeeper, and the club has a history of recruiting ex-Spurs stars — including Gareth Bale, who helped them win the 2022 MLS Cup.

With a massive Korean-American community in Los Angeles and Son’s global marketability, a move to LAFC would be significant both on and off the pitch.

According to football.london and multiple reports, the club is prepared to make Son a central figure in its squad alongside Denis Bouanga. The commercial impact could rival or even exceed that of Bale’s stint, and Son would immediately become one of the most high-profile players in the MLS — second only to Lionel Messi.
