Manchester United’s turbulent start to the season has extended beyond the pitch, with 20-year-old midfielder Kobbie Mainoo now emerging as the subject of transfer interest from Europe’s elite.

Mainoo has been an unused substitute in both of United’s opening games, sparking speculation about his immediate future. According to Mike Keegan (Daily Mail), both Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid are closely monitoring the situation, alongside several Premier League clubs.

While Mainoo is said to be “open to remaining at United”, the youngster wants consistent first-team football and is prepared to consider a season-long loan move, ideally to a Champions League side.

United fans may find the situation difficult to accept, given Mainoo’s rapid rise into the first team last season. However, doubts have been raised over his fit in Ruben Amorim’s system, which currently appears to favour summer signing Manuel Ugarte in midfield.

A potential move to Real Madrid could see Mainoo play alongside Jude Bellingham and Trent Alexander-Arnold, while a switch to Atletico would pair him with Conor Gallagher if the England midfielder stays under Diego Simeone.

For now, a Carabao Cup tie against Grimsby Town could offer Mainoo a chance to showcase his quality — but the growing interest from Spain ensures his situation remains one to watch closely.
