Sunderland have confirmed the signing of Nordi Mukiele from Paris Saint-Germain in a deal worth €12 million. The French defender has put pen to paper on a four-year contract at the Stadium of Light.
Mukiele, 27, arrives on Wearside with a wealth of experience, having represented RB Leipzig, Montpellier, and most recently PSG, where he won back-to-back Ligue 1 titles and a Coupe de France. He also spent last season on loan at Bayer Leverkusen, making 24 appearances.
Speaking after signing, Mukiele said:
“It’s a new challenge and I’m happy to be here. I came here to fight for the fans. Together – players, fans, and the city – we can achieve something good this season.”
With over 300 senior appearances across Ligue 1, Bundesliga, and the Champions League, Mukiele adds both quality and versatility, being able to operate at right-back and centre-back.
Sunderland sporting director Kristjaan Speakman praised the signing:
“Nordi possesses rare athletic qualities perfectly suited to our team in the Premier League. His versatility and European experience will be a big asset.”
Mukiele will wear the No.20 shirt for the Black Cats this season.
