Liverpool’s pursuit of Alexander Isak has hit a wall, as Newcastle United have officially rejected the Reds’ opening £110 million bid, despite the striker’s reported preference to join the Merseyside club this summer.
While Liverpool submitted their first formal bid on Friday morning, Newcastle’s swift and firm denial suggests they are not entertaining a sale this window — unless something dramatically shifts.
Isak’s Position: Wants Liverpool Move
According to David Ornstein (The Athletic), Isak has expressed a clear desire to join Liverpool. He is currently training with his former club Real Sociedad after being left out of Newcastle’s pre-season tour in Asia, a strong signal of his stance.
Newcastle, however, remain adamant. Club officials have proposed a new contract with a 2026 release clause, and senior teammates are pushing Isak to stay at least one more season.
As reported by Ben Jacobs, Liverpool will not submit a second bid unless Newcastle initiate contact and show willingness to negotiate. Internally, the club now views a move as “unachievable” under the current terms.
“Liverpool bid with optimism this morning, but Newcastle’s response was so quick and strong another bid is not currently in the works,” Jacobs added.
What Happens Next?
- Isak must now decide whether to push harder for a move or accept a new deal
- Newcastle are hoping for re-integration but are ready to cash in — next summer
- Liverpool may reconsider later this window if Newcastle soften or find replacements
Isak’s next steps will be decisive. If he insists on leaving, and if Newcastle begin exploring forward alternatives, Liverpool might return late in the window.
