Liverpool FC have completed the signing of defender Giovanni Leoni from Parma.
Liverpool FC have officially secured the signing of Italian defender Giovanni Leoni from Parma, subject to international clearance and a successful work permit application.
The 18-year-old centre-back passed a medical and signed a long-term contract at the AXA Training Centre today. Standing at 6ft 4in, Leoni arrives as one of Italy’s most promising defensive talents after a breakthrough Serie A campaign.
Last season, he made 17 appearances and scored one goal for Parma, having previously played for Padova and enjoyed a loan spell at Sampdoria in Serie B.
Born in Rome, Leoni has also represented Italy at U19 level, making seven appearances for his country.
Speaking to Liverpoolfc.com, the teenager expressed his delight:
“I’m very happy to be here. It’s a really great sensation and I’m honoured to be here. When I saw Liverpool were interested, I said, ‘Wow, this is crazy.’”
Leoni will wear the No.15 shirt for the Premier League champions as he begins the next chapter of his career at Anfield.
