Chelsea have secured the signing of Ajax’s highly-rated defender Jorrel Hato, with a deal now officially in place, according to multiple reports.
Fabrizio Romano has given his signature “Here we go!” on the transfer, confirming Chelsea will pay Ajax a fee in excess of €40 million for the 18-year-old.
“Medical and travel set to be booked,” Romano reported, adding that Hato was determined to join Chelsea this summer.
Ben Jacobs also confirmed the details, noting that Hato only wanted Chelsea, despite interest from other top European clubs. The Dutch defender is expected to sign a long-term contract with the Blues.
Hato, who captained Ajax last season despite his age, is seen as one of Europe’s most exciting young defensive prospects. His versatility and leadership at such a young age impressed Chelsea scouts and fast-tracked this major summer move.
This marks another significant investment by Chelsea in elite youth talent, as the club continues its rebuild under their current ownership.
