Arteta: Nine Teams Could Win the Premier League Title in 2025–26

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has issued a powerful statement ahead of the 2025–26 Premier League campaign, declaring that as many as nine teams could realistically challenge for the title—but emphasizing that Arsenal are more prepared than ever to take the crown.

“Every year we have to see how things develop, but I see the right balance in terms of maturity, experience, youth, hunger, and all these ingredients are there,” said Arteta in his pre-season address.

The Gunners have fallen just short of glory in recent seasons, finishing runners-up three years in a row—twice behind Manchester City and once behind Liverpool. But this year, with a refreshed squad, renewed hunger, and strong transfer activity, Arteta believes the next step is within reach.

Big Summer Moves by the Gunners

Arsenal have already made four key signings:

  • Martin Zubimendi (Real Sociedad) – technical midfield anchor
  • Kepa Arrizabalaga (Chelsea) – experienced shot-stopper
  • Christian Nørgaard (Brentford) – midfield engine
  • Noni Madueke (Chelsea) – explosive winger hailed as one of the most talented wide players in England

According to Fabrizio Romano, Arsenal are also working to finalize deals for Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyökeres and Valencia centre-back Cristhian Mosquera, with the latter expected to join the squad during their pre-season tour in Singapore.

“We’ve been very active in the market,” Arteta said. “We have to improve the players we already have, which is a massive objective after that. Then, set the right fundamentals and the right principles in pre-season.”

Youth Commitment Remains Strong

In addition to bolstering the squad with experienced internationals, Arsenal continue to invest in young talent:

  • Myles Lewis-Skelly has signed a new long-term contract.
  • Ethan Nwaneri, one of England’s brightest teenage stars, is also expected to extend his stay at the club soon.

This blend of youth, leadership, and ambition is what Arteta believes will push Arsenal over the edge.

“The only thing they were talking about at the end of last season and the first day through the door is ‘OK, how are we going to be better? How are we going to do more?’” he said. “We know that we are so close now in two big competitions, and we just want to make the next step.”

Competitive Season Ahead

With clubs like Manchester City, Liverpool, Chelsea, Tottenham, Manchester United, and potentially even Aston Villa and Newcastle all reinforcing their squads, Arteta sees the Premier League as a nine-team race.

But despite the increased pressure, he insists Arsenal are equipped to handle it.

“It is getting more and more competitive each year. The level is increasing. We know that, so our demands have to increase as well.”

First Big Test: Manchester United Away

Arsenal will open their 2025/26 campaign on August 17 with a high-profile clash away at Manchester United. The early fixture could set the tone for the season and serve as a strong statement of intent.
