Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta hailed his team’s performance after a statement 1–0 victory against Manchester United at Old Trafford to kick off the new Premier League season.
On debutant striker Viktor Gyökeres, Arteta was pleased with his impact:
“Gyökeres did a lot of very good things, I’m happy. You can tell in our high press and in the rhythm we demand, there are things we need to work on. Coming away to Manchester United and getting a win in your first game, a very good start.”
The Spaniard also praised new defender Riccardo Calafiori for his unique qualities:
“He has the capacity to change the energy. He has an aura, he has a presence. He can change things in your box and in and around the opposition box.”
On the overall game, Arteta underlined the importance of resilience and adapting to different challenges:
“That gives you momentum and confidence. We can still come away and find a way to win. And we have to find ways to do that in different contexts.”
Finally, the Arsenal manager stressed the significance of such a victory on opening weekend:
“Big result! I mean, first game of the season at Old Trafford. When you feel they’re building momentum with new signings and you’re able to come away with the win – that’s massive.”
