According to Fabrizio Romano, James McAtee’s transfer to Nottingham Forest is now complete. The 21-year-old midfielder has agreed personal terms with Forest after the club reached a full agreement with Manchester City earlier this week.
The deal will see Forest pay an initial £22 million, with the total package potentially rising to £30 million through performance-based add-ons. As part of the agreement, City have secured both a sell-on clause and a buy-back option, ensuring they retain a degree of control over McAtee’s future.
McAtee, who has been highly rated within City’s academy system, made his Premier League debut in 2021 but found first-team opportunities limited. After successful loan spells at Sheffield United, he attracted interest from multiple top-flight clubs before deciding to join NFFC.
The England U21 international is set to undergo his medical imminently, with an official announcement expected within the next 24 hours.
Nottingham Forest will hope McAtee adds creativity and vision to their midfield as they aim to build on their recent Premier League campaigns.
