Al-Hilal have reached a verbal agreement to sign Darwin Nunez from Liverpool, according to multiple sources including The Athletic’s David Ornstein.
The deal is reportedly worth €53 million plus easily reachable add-ons, bringing the potential total closer to £46.1 million. Liverpool have given Nunez permission to discuss personal terms with the Saudi Pro League club, with the striker understood to be open to the move.
Although the agreement is not yet final, and both clubs have yet to officially confirm the deal, all indications suggest that Nunez will join Al-Hilal. He may even link up with their squad during their training camp in Germany if terms are concluded soon.
Al-Hilal’s successful approach comes months after Liverpool rejected a £60 million bid from Saudi rivals Al Nassr in January. The club’s valuation appears to have lowered this summer amid changing transfer priorities and incoming players.
Nunez joined Liverpool in 2022 from Benfica in a deal worth up to £85 million, making him the club’s record signing until the arrival of Florian Wirtz earlier this summer for £116 million. During his three seasons at Anfield, the Uruguayan striker scored 40 goals in all competitions.
His mixed performances and inconsistent finishing have divided opinions among fans, and with Liverpool actively targeting Alexander Isak and previously linked with Benjamin Šeško, the club appears poised for a frontline reshuffle.
While talks continue to finalise personal terms with Al-Hilal, Liverpool look set to move forward with new attacking options ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.
