RB Leipzig ‘Contact’ Liverpool Over Potential Harvey Elliott Transfer Amid Chelsea’s Xavi Simons Pursuit
RB Leipzig have reportedly initiated talks with Liverpool over a potential deal for 22-year-old midfielder Harvey Elliott, according to The Athletic. With Chelsea pushing to sign Leipzig’s Xavi Simons, the Bundesliga club appears to be lining up Elliott as a direct replacement.
Although discussions remain at an early stage, Leipzig have shown concrete interest and reportedly presented two pricing structures to Liverpool: one involving a fee in excess of £40 million (€53.1m) with a buy-back clause, and another surpassing £50 million (€66.4m) without such a clause.
Elliott made 18 Premier League appearances last season, scoring once and assisting twice. His standout moment came in the Champions League Round of 16, where he netted the only goal in the away leg against Paris Saint-Germain. Despite the individual brilliance, Liverpool were eventually eliminated via penalties.
With the arrivals of Florian Wirtz and Hugo Ekitiké, Elliott’s minutes could be limited under new manager Arne Slot, further fueling speculation about a possible exit.
RB Leipzig view Elliott as a natural fit due to his positional versatility, having played as an attacking midfielder, central midfielder, and winger on both flanks.
The potential sale of Simons to Chelsea could open the door for Leipzig to ramp up negotiations. Simons, keen on the move, would reunite with fellow Dutchman Jorrel Hato if the transfer to Stamford Bridge is completed.
Meanwhile, Leipzig are also involved in other transfer sagas, including the high-profile pursuit of Benjamin Šeško by both Manchester United and Newcastle United, who have made formal bids.
Elliott continues to impress in preseason, having scored in a 4–1 win over Athletic Club, playing the full 90 minutes — a reminder of his talent and value ahead of any potential move.
