Newcastle United and Liverpool are once again locking horns in the transfer market—this time over Crystal Palace centre-back Marc Guéhi, according to The Times and Sports Illustrated.
The Magpies are determined to strengthen their defense after missing out on several key targets this summer, including Hugo Ekitiké, James Trafford, and Giorgio Scalvini. Adding to the challenge, their star striker Alexander Isak remains heavily linked with a move to Liverpool, with Sports Illustrated reporting that the Reds already had a £110 million ($146.3 million) bid rejected.
With Champions League football on the horizon, manager Eddie Howe is seeking reinforcements. Newcastle previously tried to sign Guéhi last summer, making three unsuccessful bids, but they are now ready to reignite talks for the 25-year-old.
The Times claims Newcastle are preparing a £40 million ($53.1 million) offer, though Crystal Palace are holding firm with a £50 million ($66.4 million) valuation. However, Newcastle hope that Palace may lower their price later in the window.
Liverpool, meanwhile, have entered the race following Jarell Quansah’s move to Bayer Leverkusen and are looking for a reliable central defender. While they’re hesitant to pay such a high fee for a player whose contract expires in 2026, their continued interest may spark another head-to-head battle with Newcastle, as seen with the Ekitiké saga.
Guéhi joined Palace from Chelsea in July 2021 and has become a defensive mainstay, notching 155 appearances and helping the club lift the FA Cup last season in a historic win over Manchester City.
The final weeks of the transfer window could see further drama between the two Premier League giants.
